Senator Rubio on The Immigration Bill

Picture
Rubio: We Can & Should Improve Immigration Reform Proposal – “…the way I think you’re supposed to  make public policy in this country is you file a bill as a starting point, but you don’t pretend you have all the answers to every question, and then you get input from others.”

PR/HCCPC Joins USHCC In Signing Support for the Gang of Eight Immigration Bill

Picture
Dear Chamber Leaders,

Yesterday, a bipartisan comprehensive immigration reform bill was introduced in the Senate. Over the past several weeks, the USHCC has prioritized commonsense immigration reform in our ongoing mission to promote economic development and prosperity among the Hispanic business community.  Passing immigration reform is not only consequential to millions of individuals living and working in the United States, but it is an economic imperative for our country.

As a local Hispanic chamber, your support is crucial, and we’re relying on your help.

We have taken a number of actions to support the immigration reform effort. In January, we released statements supporting bipartisan congressional action on immigration reform based on the Senate Gang of Eight’s principles. We have been meeting with Congressional leaders on both sides of the aisle to push for the swift passage of a bill. At our Legislative Summit, we hosted elected officials from both parties expressing the need for reform, and we were proud to work with Senator Rand Paul to build conservative support for reform.

We have also been working closely with other immigration reform advocates to make the economic case for immigration reform. We have joined coalitions, like Latinos United for Immigration Reform and InspireSTEM, to continue pushing the issue and growing consensus. Earlier this month, we announced the results of a major poll of business owners, in conjunction with the Small Business Majority, that showed business owners overwhelmingly support immigration reform. We will be hosting Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel tomorrow for a discussion about the important role that immigrant businesses play in building our economy. In the weeks and months to come, we will be doing more and more to boost consensus and bring the bill to the finish line.

Passing reform this summer is what businesses want and what our economy needs.

Attached is a copy of a letter to Senate and House leaders that we are hoping your chamber will co-sign. By including more than just the USHCC’s signature, we signal to Congress that local Hispanic chambers of commerce across the country, who work every day to improve the financial health of their member businesses and communities, demand comprehensive immigration reform. If you would like to co-sign, please contact Lizet Ocampo, Director of the USHCC Foundation, at LOcampo@ushcc.com as soon as possible.

I hope you’ll stand with the USHCC and the business community in this effort.

Sincerely,

Marc A. Rodriguez                                         Javier Palomarez

Dear Mrs. Rivera,

I am not sure if anyone that views your website or your newsletters has told you , but "mija" you rock! I have never seen anything like what your chamber and it's members does. I have been a chamber member in various Hispanic and Non Hispanic Chambers. But the passion that you and your members (not sure if they all feel as you do and they should) relay with all your events and programs is just amazing and truly admired and definately should be respected. I can see that you not only advocate policies , but your members and the communities they serve.

Mrs. Rivera , with all due respect to you and your members ...you kick ass! Keep up the great work representing your business professionals and most of all your community!
God Bless and I look forward to attending one of your meetings.
